How it works
We find the elapsed time between your start and end, then subtract the unpaid break. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator treats it as an overnight shift.
End time − start time − unpaid break = hours worked
Enter when you started and finished, then subtract any unpaid break. You’ll get the exact hours worked and a decimal total for time cards or payroll.

Payroll systems often use decimal hours. Minutes are divided by 60, so 7 hours 30 minutes becomes 7.50 hours and 7 hours 45 minutes becomes 7.75 hours.
Always follow your employer’s time-rounding and break policies when submitting a time card.
